Before you go out to buy any educational software for your child, ask yourself the following questions:
- Can the program do something worth buying? Does it support and improve skills that children are currently learning in school? Does it support thought and encourage exploration?
- Does the program let the users work together with a meaningful manner? For example, a math question should allow children to input the correct answer, not just press a button to continue.
- Does the program help children with homework? For instance, word processing software aid children to prepare neat, attractive research papers.
- Is the content of the program accurate and suitable for the children’s age and grade level?
- Does the program have good instructions explaining how to use the program? Does it have video tutorials explaining how to use the program in the language suitable to the age of the user?
- Is the program easy to use?
- Is the program compatible with your computer system? Will the program run on your computer? Make sure to read the list of the hardware requirements printed on the packaging.
- Does the program take advantage of the computer’s capabilities? For example, a CD-ROM product should make good use of available graphics and sound.
- What is the return policy? Are you allow to return or exchange the program if your children do not like it and is there a 30 days return policy?
- Is there any warranty? Does it allow you to return or exchange defective software or software that does not run on your computer, even though it is clearly advertise as compatible with your existing hardware and software?
