There are three main types of educational software. Most often software includes attributes of two or all three types into one. For instance, math software may have a tutorial followed by an assignment where the students can practice the information learned in the tutorial. Another example is with a foreign language software might explain about verb conjugations and then question the students to use those verbs in a practice conversation.
Tutorial Educational Software
These types of software are step-by-step instructions to teach concept, skills, and facts. It covers a broad selection of subjects, including typing, reading skills, foreign languages, music appreciation, and computer programming.
Drill and Practice Educational Software
These types of software are like flashcards and classroom workbooks. They use to help in reinforcing skills in subjects like spelling, arithmetic, foreign languages and typing. Mainly it is to keep track of a user’s errors and then use this information to determine the level of difficulty and the kinds of questions to ask.
Simulation Educational Software
These types of simulation software emulate real events. For instance, simulation aid users to tour an invented ocean, learning about sea creatures and natural hazards, or what happens when the users make an underwater dive or touch a whale. Other simulation takes the users to different locations where they think for themselves about how much food and clothing they need to bring, decide what to take with them on their journey.
